Glossary
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)
The practice of optimising a brand's presence and framing in generative engine answers (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity). GEO complements SEO: SEO targets blue-link rankings, GEO targets inclusion in the synthesised answer.
Concrete example
Measuring, across 200 varied prompts around "life insurance", how often ChatGPT names your brand, in what order, and with what attributes ("reliable", "expensive", "for experts").
Why it matters
Generative engines take a growing share of informational and commercial queries. Without structured measurement, a brand can disappear from the AI conversation while its classic SEO looks unchanged.
Related terms
- Prompt
A natural-language instruction sent to a generative AI model to produce an answer. Unlike a query aimed at a search engine, a prompt frames the role, context and expected output. In GEOPromptly, a prompt combines a persona, an intent, a topic and optionally a brand.
- Branded share
The proportion of prompts in a batch that explicitly mention your brand, as opposed to those that stay generic ("what's the best portable AC?" vs "is portable AC X any good?"). Expressed as a percentage of the batch.
- Pool of themes
The consolidated set of topics available for prompt generation, aggregated from your imports (sitemap, GSC, URLs, keywords) and your enrichments (PAA, PASF, semantic fingerprint). Each topic can be selected, deselected, or hidden if judged noisy.
